CINCINNATI, Ohio. (9/19/23) – Among seven teams under par in the final round, the Arkansas State men’s golf team climbed two spots to finish 14th among 17 teams in the Bearcat Invitational hosted by the University of Cincinnati at Coldstream Country Club.
A-State carded its fourth of six competitive rounds under par this season with a 1-under par 283. The Red Wolves totaled 18-over par 870 for the tournament and earned wins over Illinois State, Sam Houston and Memphis. Chattanooga won the event at 14-under par 838, turning in the low round of the day at 5-under par 279. Louisville (-6), BYU (-3), Cincinnati (E) and Florida Gulf Coast (+4) rounded out the top five teams.
Chris Somerfield (75-72-69) turned in the low round of the tournament for A-State with a final round 2-under par 69 to total 3-over par 216 and a tie for 30th. Thomas Schmidt (73-74-71), Pierce Johnson (73-75-70) and Jack Maxey (72-73-73) each totaled 5-over par 218 to tie for 40th while Devyn Pappas (75-76-78) tied for 81st.
The Red Wolves return to action Oct. 2-3 at RidgePointe Country Club for the annual Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate.
