JONESBORO, Ark. (10/1/23) – The 28th annual Arkansas State Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate golf tournament begins Monday at RidgePointe Country Club.
This is the seventh year the tournament will be played as the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate after previously being known as the Red Wolves Intercollegiate. It was renamed in honor of Barnett, who, along with the late Wayne Wolfe, was instrumental in starting the annual tournament in 1997. Barnett, a long-time supporter of Arkansas State golf and junior golf programs, has served on the tournament committee since its creation and acts as the tournament’s director.
Included among the teams making up this year’s Arkansas State Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate are Arkansas State, Belmont, Central Michigan, Evansville, Houston Christian, Incarnate Word, Jacksonville State, Kansas City, Memphis, Murray State, New Orleans, Nicholls, Oklahoma Christian, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas A&M-Commerce and UT Martin. In total, 88 players are in the tournament field.
The 54-hole tournament begins with the first and second rounds played continuously on Monday with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. The final round will begin with a shotgun start on Tuesday at 8:00 a.m.
A-State has set a lineup of Thomas Schmidt, Chris Somerfield, Pierce Johnson, Jack Maxey and Devyn Pappas for the play five and count four team scoring. Anthony De Schutter, Jake Lile and Hugo Ronnberg will compete as individuals. Devyn Pappas is the defending individual medalist while A-State has won the team title each of the last seven seasons and 13 times in the 27 tournaments contested.
