CINCINNATI, Ohio. (9/18/23) – The Arkansas State men’s golf team began play in its second event of the 2023-24 season Monday at the Bearcat Invitational and stands 16th after two of three rounds were completed at Coldstream Country Club.
A-State turned in a 9-over par 293 in the first round and followed with a 10-over par 294 in the second round to total 19-over par 587. The Red Wolves are 16th among 17 teams, one stroke behind Illinois State for 15th and 11 strokes behind Southern Miss and Jacksonville which are tied for ninth. Host Cincinnati leads the event at 12-under par 556 with Chattanooga (-9), Louisville (-5), Middle Tennessee (-4) and BYU (E) rounding out the top five.
Jack Maxey (72-73) led the Red Wolves with a 36-hole total of 3-over par 145 to tie for 38th among 90 golfers in the field. Thomas Schmidt (73-74) and Chris Somerfield (75-72) totaled 5-over par 147 to tie for 51st while Pierce Johnson (73-75) totaled 6-over par 148 to tie for 62nd. Devyn Pappas (75-76) totaled 9-over par 151 and is tied for 74th.
The third and final round begins at 8:00 a.m. (CT) with a shotgun start. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
