JONESBORO, Ark. (3/17/22) – Reigning Sun Belt Conference outdoor track and field champions begin their run to a title defense on Friday, traveling to Acadiana for the Louisiana Classics.

Held at the Ragin’ Cajuns Track/Soccer Complex in Lafayette, the meet begins at 3 p.m. Friday with the women’s javelin. A-State’s contingent is a smaller group, competing in the women’s javelin, as well as both the men’s and women’s discus on Friday.

On Saturday, A-State will compete in the men’s hammer throw and women’s shot put at 10 a.m., while Isabel Daines will be the squad’s first track competitor later in the day, competing in the 100m hurdles at 3 p.m.

THE COMPETITION (DIVISION I): Lamar, Louisiana (host), McNeese, New Orleans, Nicholls, Southeastern Louisiana, Tulane, ULM

3 THINGS TO NOTE:

1.     THE CHAMPS ARE BACK: Arkansas State is looking to defend a sweep of the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships this season, while the women are looking for their third outdoor crown in a row.

2.     FAMILIAR SURROUNDINGS: A-State is opening up the season at a place it will need to get familiar with, as Louisiana also plays host to the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships in May

3.     THE LAST DANCE: No, not Michael Jordan’s last run with the Chicago Bulls… This note refers to redshirt senior Grace Flowers’ final season in the Scarlet and Black. The Tulsa, Okla., native enters her final season at A-State with five medals (indoor/outdoor combined) and took the conference outdoor crown in the discus in 2019.
