JONESBORO, ARK. (12/30/20) – After becoming the first Arkansas State baseball alum to play in the Majors since 2017, the Red Wolves honored Kansas City Royals pitcher Tyler Zuber by adding his picture to the “Red Wolves in the Pros” wall in the main lobby of the Tomlinson Stadium facility.
 
During the shortened 2020 campaign, Zuber (1-2) made 23 appearances while pitching to a 4.09 ERA. The rookie earned 30 strikeouts on the year and held opposing batters to a .197 average.
  
“We are thrilled to honor our A-State Baseball alumni Tyler Zuber with his Major League debut this past season,” said A-State head baseball coach Tommy Raffo. “His tireless work ethic and commitment to excel led him down this path of success.  We can’t wait to see what the future holds for him in baseball.”
 
Zuber, a White Hall, Ark., native, was selected by the Royals in the sixth round of the 2017 MLB June Amateur Draft with the 180th pick, and he worked his way through the minor system before making his Major League debut in 2020. 
 
In three seasons in the minor leagues, Zuber posted an 8-10 record with 45 saves and a 2.96 ERA with 177 strikeouts in 133.2 innings pitched.
 
Zuber enjoyed an impressive senior season for the Red Wolves with a 2.06 ERA in 52.1 innings pitched to go along with a 6-1 record and six saves that led the team in both categories. The 2.06 ERA ranks as the fourth best in school history, and he improved to 20-9 in his career with the 20 wins ranking as the third most all-time at A-State. He also notched 12 career saves for the second-most in school history.
 
Additionally, the right-handed reliever led the team with 80 strikeouts against just 16 walks as a senior. Zuber allowed 29 hits and held opposing batters to a .162 average, also the best mark on the team.  He was second on the team in appearances with 25 to give him 89 for his career, which is the third most in school history. The 80 punchouts also gave him 258 for his career to place him second in school history.
