JONESBORO, Ark. (7/26/23) – After a strong performance in the classroom for the 2022-23 academic year, the Arkansas State baseball program once again received an American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award on Wednesday.
The ABCA has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation’s oldest, founded in 1949, and the ABCA’s awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/Diamond Regional & National Coaches of the Year and several other major awards such as the ABCA Hall of Fame and the Ethics in Coaching Award.
Teams from every level of college and high school baseball were honored with the award, which recognizes teams coached by ABCA members that posted a GPA of over 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the 2022-23 academic year. Over 300 high school programs are more than 450 collegiate programs were recognized this year.
A-State joined Sun Belt Conference mates Coastal Carolina, Georgia State and Southern Miss on the list that featured 128 Division-I programs.
Head Coach Tommy Raffo‘s program has earned ABCA Team Academic Excellence Awards four years in a row, as well as seven of the last eight dating back to 2015-16.
